No BOTTLE!!!
It is about time. My kid is only 2 and we finally got rid of the bottle. We had tried a couple of times before, but honestely, I had a hard time with it. Jacob got so grumpy and refused to do anything, so I always gave in. This time, he bit the top so hard that he punctured it and it had 3 little holes in it. So, we made him throw it away. He actually did it, which is what surprised me! But then bed time rolled around. HE refused to go to sleep unless he had his bottle. But, we kept explaining to him that is was gone because he broke it and he had to throw it away. When he actually went to sleep, he slept ALL night! Lately, he had been getting up to get more milk in his bottle. But now, for the last 3 nights, he has slept through the night!!! And if he askes for his bottle, we ask him where it is. He tells us he broke it and he had to throw it away. He is doing so much better now. He was a big GRUMP the last couple of days, but now he is getting used to it. Now, how to fix his other little issue. He will not drink milk from anything else. We've tried having Joe do it, dipping cookies in it. HE just dips the cookie in and gives it to Joe. How do we get him his calcium?? I haven't really worried about it until now, because I was just too happy that he actually gave his bottle up!! YAY!! If anyone has any suggestions, tips, or hints, please let me know!!

I don't have any advice, but I am so happy for you that he is done with it and that he is sleeping through the night. YAY Jacob!!!
When I weaned malcom from nursing, I just went straight to those rubber-topped sippy cups (dealing with bottles was just too much of a hassle, I'm lazy.. lol). So, obviously, I don't have the any experience like that, or even with a toddler, but maybe it can relate..? Malcom didn't want anything from the sippy cup at first, especially cows milk, so I read somewhere about people putting carnation instant breakfast in it (like the chocolate and strawberry flavors), and getting their kid used to that then gradually decreasing the amount they put in. It worked like a charm and only took a few days from the start to just pure milk. Also, while I was at Walmart the other day there was a mom and a little girl, and the mom was oh so very patiently trying to get her daughter to pick out a "big girl" cup. Maybe if he picks it out he might like it more? My sister used a little chocolate syrup to make chocolate milk, then gradually decreased the chocolate-ness over a week or two. I like the carnation breakfast better though because it has vitamins and good stuff in it. I don't know, maybe if he doesn't think of it as milk you can trick him in to it? That's all I've got.. I don't know if it will help... I know whenever I get stumped I ask google, and I can find a lot of suggestions from people who've dealt with the same issues. Google practically is raising my kid. God bless google. ;) Good luck Val! Sorry this is so long... just want to help! I'm sure you'll figure something out. That's what moms do!
Hooray for sleeping better!
Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium. It's actually easier for the body to absorb than milk is. Go figure. My personal favorite is ice cream and cheese, but you have to eat a lot more of that to get the same amount of calcium as milk or yogurt. (That's okay with me ;) )
Ya Hoo!! I know how hard you have been trying to get him off of the bottle!! I agree, yogurt, cheese, ice cream - all good sources of calcium. It seems like everything is fortified with calcium, like orange juice. I'm not a big milk drinker, so sometimes, I make my oatmeal with milk instead of water - you can substitute milk for water in lots of recipes. Good luck - you didn't drink mild, so just do what you did! Love you
It took Richie awhile to get over his stubbornness but he finally gave in. They have cups that are soft and feel like bottles in ways, that's what we did. The two we bought were Gerber brand and Nuk. So just see if he's interested in something like that? Good luck!
