I Love Me, I Love Me Not

I am back!! I was sick last week and am finally better. I would have blogged with my down time but looking at the computer made me dizzy and nauseous. But at last, that has passed and I'm back to entertain you!! So, this is what I'm here to blog about. Our monthly relief society meeting was last week. It was amazing! It was the title of the post. "I Love Me, I Love Me Not". This lady is from Rigby and does this presentation to relief societies and young women. It was so uplifting and helpful for anyone. Now, just so you know, this wasn't exactly the presentation. This is more what I got out of it. Hopefully you can too!!
Body:
Satan is really good at putting the impression across that looks are everything. If you are skinny and are what the world perceives as pretty, then you've got it made. The media is sneaky. What you see on the magazine cover is not what that model looks like. So much air brushing and changing went into making that cover that you probably wouldn't recognize that person if you came face to face with her.

Jeffery R. Holland said, "Frankly, the world has been brutal with yo in this regard. You are bombarded in movies, television, fashion magazines, and advertisements with the message that looks are everything. the pitch is, 'If your looks are good enough, your life will be glamorous and you will be happy and popular'. It is on of Satan's great lies." How true is that! There is so much more that goes into having a healthy body. It isn't how skinny you are or if you fit into a certain size. Eating healthy and exercising are also crucial to having this. Also the other things. That is where the mind and spirit come in.

Mind:
President Hinckley said, "You have the potential to become anything to which you set your mind. You have a MIND and a BODY and a SPIRIT. With these three working together, you can walk the high road that leads to achievement and happiness." After reading that, don't you feel kind of invincible? Heavenly Father has given us these three things to do His work!! How amazing!

Spirit:
"...learn what we should learn...do what we should do...be what we should be..."-President Thomas S. Monson, Conference Address, October 2008. I think that this is one of the best motto's anyone can have. If we are doing what we are supposed to, then this is what we are following!

Now, just one more quote that she gave the was kind of a side topic was from Elder Neil L. Anderson. He said, "Faith is not a feeling, it is a decision." I think so many times, we think it is a feeling and we think maybe we don't have faith because we haven't had any of those feelings. But it is a way of life. It is a conscious decision we make. This whole thing was just really good and uplifting that I thoroughly enjoyed. And just for good measure, an awesome picture of Jacob. He posed all by himself. He saw the camera and this is what he did. What a cutie!!

Hi Val!

So sorry to hear you were sick - that darn flu bug just keeps getting us down! Glad to hear you are on the mend... :0)

I loved your post! We do have such a way of comparing ourselves to others! I worry about our young women, they are bombarded with so many voices telling them what is pretty, thin and right. But, with a twist - it's all WRONG! What beautiful quotes! I am going to copy them and save them for lessons. My lesson this month is on Pride, a talk from Pres. Uchtdorf, from Oct. Conference, Priesthood session - very good! Lots of what you talked about could be applied with this lesson, thank you so much for sharing, this is something we all need to work on!

What a ham that boy is!! He is so cute! Give him some kisses for me!

Love you,
Barb

Thanks Val, that was a good reminder today. I love that Jacob looks like a little concert pianist in that photo! :)
