So, real quick, before I get to the real reason for this post. I just started a book for our ward book club called "Tending Roses". I'm not very far into it, but so far so good. It's about a girl and her husband and little baby that go to soften the blow to her grandmother that she needs to go to a nursing home because she is forgetting important things and almost burned her house down. Anyway, one night they are sitting out on the porch and the granddaughter is saying how strapped for money they are and need to pay all of these bills. She says if we want all of these things then we need lots of money. The grandma says something about when she was young, the mothers stayed home unless absolutely necessary. The granddaughter then says something like, well two incomes is a must because we have to pay for the things we want. Then, the grandma looks at her and says "Well, shouldn't you want a little less than?" I thought about that and it is really true. And I know that working is a must with some. But some have two incomes because they want boats and fancy cars and a huge house and all of these things that really shouldn't be taking priority but are. Now, I am not in any way at all condemning or judging anyone for both working. That is totally your business and none of mine. But I just found it interesting about today's society and wanting way more than we can afford. Wanting it here and now. There is nothing wrong with working towards something. Any who, after that little rant, here is the fun we had today!
I am making up for my lack of pictures lately. I made sure to take pictures while playing/working outside tonight. Joe was putting up those roof snow melter things up on our roof tonight and Jacob thought he had to help. He truly is his father's son. He has to do everything that Joe does and refuses to have it any other way. The little stinker! So he had to get up on the roof. I was a nervous wreck the entire time, but Jacob loved it!
Like father like son. Notice the can of soda while chilling on the roof!

Helping daddy out

Flying like Buzz Lightyear. Really, what else would you do when put in a swing?

Just being cute while swinging and playing in the leaves.

Hah, that sounds like something Malcom would do, and Ben would love it, and I would be running around on the lawn trying to make sure I'm in the perfect place, just in case he fell off. Being a mom is hard sometimes! haha
Thanks for sharing the thought about wanting more stuff than you can afford. It's an easy trap to get pulled into, especially when there are so many great things out there. It's a great reminder, especially for this time of year when commercialism starts gearing up again for the holidays. Thanks Val!
Hi Val!
I about had a heart attack when I saw Jacob on the roof!!! I guess it's a grandma thing ... :0)
Sounds like a good book. I really think that we all need to simplify - we really do live in such a competitive world where "things" have been put on the front burner instead of the back burner. What a good thing to think about, especially with the holidays right around the corner . . . you are so wise! Moms need to be home with their babies if they can be - you know how I feel about daycares! Love you!
I am so glad that you found my blog and that now I found yours :) I will have to put you on my blog list so I know when you update. I started the book too and it is pretty good so far. Jacob is just too cute!
